An unidentified woman, in a bid to terminate her pregnancy, had her boyfriend punch her in the stomach.
According to a report on New York Post, the woman was around 30 weeks Pregnant and it incident happened on May 24
The woman eventually gave birth, but the baby had a fractured skull and was declared dead soon after her birth.
The woman had had her boyfriend punch her in the stomach at least 10 times in a bid to abort the baby after the two decided that they did not want the child.
The woman went to the hospital with bruises on her stomach which she explained to the hospital staff was from a fall while mopping.
The hospital staff did not believe her and decided to call the police.
The problem comes from the law. In California, the law is that abortions are legal until the 26 weeks mark and the lady was 30 weeks in.
The police are unsure how to proceed as the boyfriend has denied any wrongdoing and while violence against a pregnant woman which leads to the death of the foetus can lead to a conviction, the willfully abetted killing of the foetus by the mother usually isn’t.
The violent nature of this case, however, might require some fresh rules.
