Prof. Peter Katchy, Chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra chapter, made the call in a statement made available  to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Onitsha.
The chairman stated this on the backdrop of this year’s World First Aid Day, which had the theme “First Aid Saves Lives.”
Katchy said that the annual campaign to promote the importance of first aid training was to help prevent injuries and save lives.

“Simple first aid skills, and the confidence to use them, could save lives and everyone during crisis situations.
“The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) believes that first aid should be accessible to all including the most vulnerable, and should also be an integral part of a wider developmental approach,” the chairman stated.
According to him, first aid aims to preserve life, prevent the escalation of the illness or injury, promote recovery, pain relief and protect the unconscious.
Katchy urged individuals to utilise the World First Aid Day in a positive way by learning and spreading the importance of first aid.
He noted that first aid training could now be easily learnt through the internet.
