Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has revealed her distress after discovering that her latest movie, “Malaika,” was pirated and released on various Telegram channels just three days into the new year. The acclaimed filmmaker and actress expressed her deep concern over the rampant piracy affecting the creative industry and the financial toll it takes on investments.
Sharing her experience and the immediate response from her team to curb the unauthorized release, Toyin Abraham conveyed her fears of potential subsequent leaks and the detrimental impact on the film industry’s growth. In her post, she emphasized the broader implications of piracy, particularly its adverse effects on streaming services, leading to reduced spending as platforms struggle to trust subscription numbers due to illegal content distribution.
In a direct call to action, Toyin Abraham urged those involved in uploading or downloading unlicensed content to cease such activities, highlighting the damaging consequences for both the industry and the creators behind the content.
Acknowledging the collaborative effort to combat piracy, Toyin Abraham extended her gratitude to her team, including @filmoneng, the movie’s distributor, and law enforcement officers who played a crucial role in apprehending the alleged culprits. The coordinated effort involved AIG Idowu Owohunwa in Alagbon, CP Atayero, CSP Kayode Emmanuel, SP Idris Sarunmi, and their dedicated team members.
