National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu should take a large chunk of the blame in the loss of the party’s candidate in Saturday’s gubernatorial election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Some Twitter users said this after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared incumbent Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Godwin Obaseki winner of the election.
They said Tinubu’s viral video urging the Edo electorate not to vote for Obaseki worked against Ize-Iyamu.
Giving an assessment of the election, a Twitter user, @stanwal wrote, “This election was about; 1. Obaseki. He performed. 2. APC and it’s treatment of Obaseki. 3. Adams Oshiomole tried to play God 4. PDP. Edo state is a traditional PDP state. That’s where we feel at home. 5. Tinubu. That video did a lot of damage. 6. The youths played a role.”
A popular influential, Oluyemi Fasipe wrote, “To say that Tinubu had to relocate to Edo for the election and they still lost speaks volume on the political relevance of Tinubu, and what to expect in 2023 if he contests. Let me off my mic now.”
Another user, @MrOdanz wrote, “My dear Lagosians, it is very possible for you to break the chains of your slavery and be free from Tinubu. How long will you continue being in shackles? Your city is deteriorating, illiterates, thugs and hoodlums rule over your city. Be like Edo people and get rid of your demigod.”
He added, “Any loss for Asiwaju Tinubu is a huge victory for Nigeria. We need him to keep capitulating outside Lagos.”
Hamma @HaHayatu wrote, “They always say @AsiwajuTinubu is the master but when you look closely is all ruse, he stopped Igbo’s from voting in Lagos to rig in Sanwoolu, he was humiliated in Osun had to do mago mago rerun, he was squarely defeated in Oyo. Tinubu is overrated abeg.”
Also, Sodiq Tade wrote, “For the record, Obaseki defeated Tinubu, Oshiomhole, Ize Iyamu, Tony Kabaka, thugs, touts and other Democrats.”
Brown Ijego wrote, “Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Adams Oshiomhole are the main source of APC crisis and problems nation wide. Because of Tinubu’s presidential ambition in 2023, they are trying to force every of their plans into the party in order to hold APC at ransom as Tinubu hold Lagos State, without using political logic and wisdom. All APC members and supporters should take note of them.”
