Blogger arrested in Ogun state for defaming Mrs. Amosun

A blogger in Ogun state, Emmanuel Ojo has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly falsely accusing the state’s First Lady, Mrs Olufunsho Amosun, of money laundering.

Ojo was arrested on Monday for publishing a report accusing the First Lady of having been arrested for laundering over $300,000 in London.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the suspect was arrested at the Ibara Police Station before being transferred to state command’s headquarters in Eleweran for questioning.

The state government was said to have reported the alleged defamation to the police after Mrs. Amosun denied any act of money laundering or being arrested in London over same.

The blogger, who was arrested on Saturday, is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.

Adejobi said: “We received a complaint from the state government on the suspect, and he was arrested. Presently he is with us at Eleweran; we are still conducting our investigations. If he is found wanting he will be charged to court accordingly.”
