A 58-year-old prophet has appeared before the Alagbado Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Lagos to seek the dissolution of his 25-year marriage.

Prophet Elijah Johnson, a pastor at the Holy Timothy Church in Aboru area of Lagos, prayed the court to dissolve the union between him and his wife, Taiwo, over allegations of infidelity.

Prophet Johnson alleged that his wife is hostile and always insults church members, adding that they started living together in 1987, though he did not pay any dowry on her.

He further alleged that he caught her committing adultery with some of the men in his church at different times.

According to him, when he married a second wife, Taiwo was always fighting her and would not care about him or cook for him, especially whenever he just returns from his missionary travels.

He told the court that he no longer loved her and would like the court to dissolve the union.

In her defence, 47-year-old Taiwo, who is also a prophetess, denied all the allegations, stating that all her husband’s claims of hostility were false.

Taiwo told the court that it was not in her character to fight people, and that she loved her husband and that he meant everything to her.

She maintained that since they started living together, no other man had seen her nakedness.

She pleaded with the court not to dissolve the union but to talk to her husband to consider the number of years they had spent together as well as consider their seven children and change his decision.

The case was adjourned till Monday, August 19, 2013 for further hearing.
