The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has called for more bilateral relationship and exchange of vital information among police in different countries.

He said that the recent arrest of notorious  Lagos kidnap kingpin was made possible by information sharing, revealing that the kidnapper holds his victim for up to six months until they fully pay the ransom.

The IG made the plea at the West Africa National Security Conference taking place in Ghana’s Accra capital, revealing that the notorious man is said to also collect ransom only in dollars.

“Last week,” he noted, “we arrested a kidnapper. He has houses in Ghana and his family is based here in Ghana and that’s the only kidnapper that kidnaps and demands ransom in dollars.”

The IG continued by saying that, “He has collected about $6million so far in ransom and he keeps his victim for as long as six months, even if it means paying the ransom in installments.

“It is sad that he keeps somebody for six months and doesn’t release the victim until that money was paid in full.”
