NYSC members offer free medical treatment to rural dwellers in Sokoto

No fewer than 1,500 rural dwellers have accessed free medical treatment offered by members of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Fajaltu community of Dange-Shuni Local Government Area in Sokoto State.
The state NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Musa Abubakar, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Sokoto.
However, Abubakar said that the exercise was conducted in July this year.
“It is a fourth quarter free medical outreach under the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) introduced by the NYSC Scheme being carried out quarterly in all the 36 states of the federation and FCT.
“The programme aimed at rendering treatments, referrals and diagnosis to all categories of people in the rural areas toward improving access to healthcare facilities,” he said.
Abubakar explained that the primary objective of the HIRD is to compliment government effort in promoting healthcare delivery to the rural populace.
“This is one of the numerous humanitarian services the scheme offers to better and improve the living standard of people.
“Our teams of NYSC medical personnel render free medical services to people that comprised measurements, testing, diagnoses, consultancy, treatment, dispensation of drugs and referral where necessary,” he said.
The coordinator urged rural dwellers members to avail themselves with such opportunity in future for the benefit of all.
He commended the NYSC Director-General for sustaining the initiative that made the scheme relevant and increased corps members community participation.
He further thanked the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Balarabe Kakale, for the donating drugs, as well as Dr Aminu Shehu, the Director, Disease and Immunisation, state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, for his invaluable contribution to the success of the programme.
Abubakar said the NYSC management would ensure routine skill acquisition training, business ownership development education and other empowerment programmes to make corps members more productive. (NAN)
