The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, has appointed Olabisi Kolawole, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, as the new Force Public Relations Officer.
Ms Kolawole makes history as the first female police to be appointed as national spokesperson for the police.
“This appointment is geared towards harnessing the enormous potentials among Nigerian female police officers,” said Mr Arase.
The new police spokesperson, who holds a Law degree from the Ogun State University and a Master’s in Police Leadership and Management from the University of Leicester, replaces Emmanuel Ojukwu, who is now the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command.
Ms Kolawole was the Force Gender Adviser before her recent posting.
Similarly, Mr Arase has appointed Idowu Owohunwa, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, as the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) to the IGP.
Mr Owohunwa, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the Ahmadu Bello University, as well as a Master’s in Criminal Justice and Policing from the University of Leeds, has served the Nigeria Police in diverse capacities, such as Staff Officer to the 2006 Dan Madami-Chaired Presidential Committee on Nigeria Police Reforms and Divisional Crime Officer of the National Assembly Complex Police Division Abuja. He was also the pioneer head of the Intelligence Analysis Unit of the Force Intelligence Bureau.
Mr Owohunwa takes over from Austin Iwar who is now the Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command.
