FG Approves Salary Increase for Civil Servants

1 Min Read

Nigerian civil servants across various sectors have good reason to celebrate. The Federal Government has approved a salary increase ranging from 25% to 35%. This raise applies to the remaining six Consolidated Salary Structures (CONSS) after the Tertiary Education and Health Sectors received their adjustments earlier.

The affected salary structures include the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

This positive news is retroactive, with the increase effective from January 1st, 2024. There’s more good news for retirees as well. Pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme linked to these six structures will also see an increase in their pensions, ranging from 20% to 28%, effective from the same date.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Head of Press for the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Emmanuel Njoku. This move by the Federal Government signifies an effort to address concerns about civil servant compensation and improve their overall well-being.
