No fewer than 400 Nigerian security personnel including members of the Armed Forces, the police and members of the Department of State Services, DSS, have this weekend, left FCT, Abuja for special military training in Russia.
Earlier this year, 800 officers left for the same training in a bid to combat insurgency in Nigeria.
Security forces from Russia were in the country earlier to carry out the selection process of another 400 officers who will total with the 800 to “form a nucleus of the Special Forces Brigade to be set up by the Nigeria,” following a successful completion of training, estimated to take four months.
Reports from Vanguard, claimed that ‘at about 5pm weekend’ the security personnel’s along with the Russian instructors left the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in a chattered aircraft.
The Federal government of Nigeria alternatively turned to Russia for military and logistics assistance after the Unites States and United Kingdom allegedly failed to yield aid to combat terrorist Islamic sects, Boko Haram.
“The United States and Britain appear unwilling to provide arms to our armed forces. It is surprising because these are two friendly countries to Nigeria which is under threat from terrorists. We have no option but to look somewhere else for our needs pending when the issues are resolved at the diplomatic level by our government,” Vanguard gathered from a senior security official.
