2018 World Cup: Nigeria Records First Away Victory Over Zambia; Win 2-1

Alex Iwobi’s debut goal for Nigeria’s Super Eagles ushered the team into the lead in the 32nd minute, before Manchester City striker Kelechi Ihaenacho scored the second goal just before half time.

The goals from both youngsters gave the Eagles a deserved 2-0 lead by half time.

At the start of the second half of the game, the Zambian team began to asset their dominance on the match and the Eagles were grateful to the work of goalkeeper Carl Ikeme for keeping their two goal lead intact.

The Wolvehampton Wanderers goalkeeper however also made several good saves to keep the Zambians safe.

The Eagles’ defence eventually caved as as the Zambians scored a goal through a mistake by Kenneth Omeruo in the 71st minute.

The Zambian team continued to pepper the Eagles’ side but the Nigerian team were steadfast in their defence and held on for a very important win.

Nigeria and Zambia are in a tough World Cup qualifying group alongside Africa’s top team, the Dessert Foxes of Algeria and former African Champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

Nigeria will play with the home advantage in its next game against Algeria in November.

Only the top team will qualify from the group to become one of Africa’s Five representatives at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

This will be the first time Nigeria will be defeating the Zambians on their home turf.
