A 2023 presidential hopeful, Olusegun Bamgbose, says Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi made a mistake defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umahi and his cabinet dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday and decamped to the APC in a move that will be formalised today.

The Ebonyi governor cited PDP’s injustice meted out to the South-East zone for his exit.

He accused the PDP of having no plan to allow the South-East take its 2023 presidential ticket despite the zone’s loyalty to the party over the years.

“The APC, however, appears to be amenable towards working with the South-East even though the South-East never supported it the way it supported the PDP since 1999.

“We would be 24 years with the PDP by 2023 and Ebonyi, under my administration, will testify the numerous feats we have attained with the support of my friend and father, President Muhammadu Buhari,” he told reporters while announcing his defection.

He said he would not regret the decision no matter its outcome.

However, Bamgbose, who is the National Coordinator of Concerned Advocates for Good Governance (CAGG), stated that Umahi may become frustrated in APC as the party “will mess him up soon”.

Umahi has been accused of nursing a presidential ambition on the APC platform.

“Let him be told that he cannot realise his presidential ambition in APC.

“His defection has exposed him to be a politician devoid of political foresight.

“APC will never zone the 2023 presidency to the South East. It’s the last thing that the party will do. David Umahi has behaved like a political toddler.

“His defection is highly defective. He should be crowned as a joker of the year 2020, if he believes that he will be handed over APC Presidential ticket, it’s very doubtful.

“There is however another possibility that he was cajoled by APC to come over to APC for him to be running mate to a Northerner. This is a great deception.

“It’s really a big surprise that after winning via PDP, he could now ditch them because of his unrealisable ambition. It’s really pathetic and very unfortunate,” Bamgbose, who is a 2023 presidential hopeful on the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) platform, told Daily Post.
