The presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has officially unveiled Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
Shettima, who is the senator representing Borno Central, was unveiled on Wednesday at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
Tinubu had named Shettima, who is a two-term Governor of Borno, on Sunday, July 10.
His announcement followed the withdrawal of Ibrahim Masari, who was the ‘placeholder’ running mate.
The same-faith ticket of the APC had drawn widespread criticism, especially from the Christian community.
However, Tinubu said he took the decision after wide consultation.
“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man who has also thrown his arm around every tribe in Nigeria. He has offered his shoulders for those in pain to lean on. He has used his wealth to bring succour to the needy.
“He can be trusted to run an inclusive government in which character, competence and vision matter to his administration,” he said.
