70-Year-Old Remanded In Prison For Setting House On Fire

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ibadan has remanded a sexagenarian, Seye Brodeemendi,  in Agodi  prison for allegedly  setting a house on fire.

Chief Magistrate Jejelola Ogunbona  remanded the defendant  in prison pending consideration of his application  bail application..

Ogunbona  adjourned the case till  April 17 for mention.

NAN reports that Brodeemendi, whose address was not disclosed, was arraigned  on a four – count charge of conspiracy, setting house on fire as well as  attempting  to kill and destroy goods.

The Prosecutor, Insp Adewale Amos, told the court that Brodeemendi and others now at large conspired to commit the offence.

Amos  alleged that  Brodeemendi  wilfully and unlawfully set fire on a house,  destroying  the house, bags of cement and working tools.

“Brodeemendi allegedly destroyed 4,000 pieces of cement blocks, perimeter fencing and 200 bags of cements valued at N4,000,000,  property of ABN Integrated Industries Limited, Ibadan.

” The defendant was also alleged to have attempted to kill one Suleiman Oguntunde by attacking and inflicting severe bodily harm on him which left him unconscious,’’  Amos said.

The defendant allegedly committed the offences  on March 2  at about 2am at ABN Integrated Industries Ltd on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, Ibadan.

Amos said the offences contravened sections 320 (1), 451, 443 (A) and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo state 2000.

The court did not take the plea of the defendant.  (NAN)
