Atiku and Buhari’s palpitating hearts must be beating at a rate higher than the usual, as Judgement will be delivered on the petition brought by the People’s Democratic Party and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, challenging the result of the February 23 presidential election which declared Buhari as winner, while Atiku seeks to nullify same.

The tribunal, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, is mandated under section134 (1) to (3) of the Electoral Act, 2010 to determine the petition which was filed by the petitioners on 18th of March, within 180 days. The stipulated 180days is due to lapse on the 14th of September, however, the tribunal has notified all parties that judgement shall be delivered on Wednesday, 11th of September.
The result of the presidential election on 27 February, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, showed that Buhari won with 15,191,847 votes, while Atiku, had a total of 11,262,978 votes.
Atiku and his political party, PDP, in their joint petition, alleged that INEC had declared the wrong election results and unlawfully allocated votes to Buhari. Consequently, contrary to the declaration of Buhari as the winner with 15,191,847 and Atiku with 11,262,978, Atiku alleged that according to the accurate figures, he defeated Buhari with a total of 18,356,732 votes, while tolled with 16, 741,430 votes allots to Buhari.
