Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, says Nigeria’s social media space should be regulated in order to curb the spread of fake news
Amaechi made this known on Monday, February 17, while reacting to reports which claimed that he was attacked at the Rigasa train station in Kaduna state.
He added that the reports only showed that there were people who deliberately want to bring down the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, “This so-called social media, the earlier they start regulating it, the better. We either start regulating this or there are people who deliberately want to bring down the government, and I don’t know what they want to achieve by that, is it that the government can’t protect its own minister.
“Most of these stories we hear are not true, they had earlier on said there was an attack on passengers on the same Rigasa, I had to tell NRC to make a rejoinder because there was none,” he added.
Earlier, The Herald reported that Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, disclosed that he has a great fear for God in all his dealings, saying he never went for any election without hearing first from Him.
Amaechi made this remark in his speech at the 8th matriculation ceremony of Gregory University Uturu, Abia state, which was aired live on NTA on Saturday, February 15.
He said: “I don’t go for any election without going on my knees to ask God, ‘What is your position’. I am always afraid to know that I’m without God.”
Amaechi said that he is transparent and straightforward in whatever he finds himself doing. The former Rivers state governor added that he is childishly honest in the sense that he can be as blunt as possible without even recognizing that he is hurting someone else by saying the truth as it is.
