Man, 22, bags 6 months jail term for stealing car battery, welding engine

An Osogbo Magistrates ‘ Court in Osun, on Tuesday, sentenced one Muraina Sodiq, 22, to six months imprisonment for stealing a car battery and a welding engine.

The Magistrate, Mr Ola Oladoke, sentenced the convict after he had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing preferred against him and begged for the court’s leniency.

Oladoke sentenced the convict without an option due to the magnitude of the offence he committed.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Rasaki Olaiwola, had told the court that the convict committed the offences on March 15 at about 7 am., at Oke-Baale area, Osogbo.

Olaiwola told the court that the convict stole a car battery, valued at N18,000 and one welding engine, valued at N45,000 , both totaling N63,000.

He said the offences contravened Sections 413 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun, 2002.
