Yoruba Actor Baba Ijesha Appeals Five-Year Sentence for Sexual Assault

1 Min Read

Popular Yoruba Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, better known by his stage name Baba Ijesha, is challenging his five-year sentence for sexual assault.

Baba Ijesha was convicted in July 2022 by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court. He now appeals to the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal to overturn the conviction.

Through his lawyer, Kayode Olabiran, Baba Ijesha argues entrapment. He claims he was acting according to a script provided by his colleague, Damilola Adekoya (PW1) during the alleged incident.

The Director of Public Prosecution, Babajide Martins, counters this argument, urging the court to dismiss the appeal as lacking merit and based on a misconception. He recommends upholding the original judgment.

The Court of Appeal will now consider the arguments presented by both sides before reaching a decision.
