The National Volunteer Group (NVCG) has commended the federal and state governments as well as other frontline medical experts for the steps taken so far in controlling the spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

The Coordinator of the group, Mallam Yusuf Amoke, gave the commendation in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Kaduna.
“We commend the pragmatic steps of stopping public gatherings and commercial activities in a bid to stop the spread of the virus and save lives.
“This is the time when our humanity must transcend all our deeply- held moral values.
“To defeat this virus, we must stand together. ‘All for one and one for all’, as the famous maxim dictates,” the statement said.
The group urged Nigerians to take steps to ameliorate the sufferings of their neighbours and dependents.
“We appeal for more relief materials to help support the most vulnerable members of our communities facing the challenges posed by the virus,”the group said.
The coordinator extended the group’s special appreciation to medical experts, led by officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), for risking their lives to lead the fight against the virus.
“We also commend the media for their advocacy messages and public enlightenment campaigns,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the group is an ad hoc team of patriotic citizens working together to support the public and private efforts at curbing the effects of COVID-19 in the country.
The group aims to create awareness within local communities and build mass support for directives of the government and other medical experts as well as reach out to the vulnerable and the most-at-risk members of the public with relief items.
It also aims to ensure information management that will aid timely handling of incidences regarding Coronavirus.
