Jesse Helt, the homeless man who accompanied Miley Cyrus to Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, is wanted by the police in Oregon.  Officers have an outstanding arrest warrant for the 22-year-old from 2011, alleging that he had violated the terms of his parole.

Helt was reportedly arrested in 2010 for breaking and entering the apartment of a man he believed had sold him marijuana. He was charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass and burglary; after pleading guilty to the first two charges and was assigned a 30-day jail sentence and probation.

An arrest warrant was issued for Jesse Helt when he stopped checking in with his probation officer, said Polk County, Oregon, Corrections Director Martin Silbernagel.

“Reportedly, he has returned to the Polk County area”, Silbernagel said. “We will be attempting to serve him his warrant, at which time he will be taken into custody.”

Helt took centre stage at Sunday’s VMAs to accept the best video of 2014 award “on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youths in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now.”
