The re-election bid of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has received a major boost following the return to his camp of immediate-past Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde.

Abegunde, who is popularly known as Abena, resigned his appointment on July 6.

After his resignation, he vowed to work against Akeredolu’s re-election in the October 10 gubernatorial polls.

He also vowed to support the candidature of Segun Abraham, an All Progressives Congress (APC) guber aspirant who later stepped down for Akeredolu.

But the former SSG switched his support to another governorship aspirant, Olayide Adelami, who lost the party’s ticket to the governor.

Abegunde had alleged that he was one of those who rigged the 2016 gubernatorial election for Akeredolu, an allegation he recanted after the governor threatened to initiate legal actions against him.

The former SSG took political observers by surprise when it emerged that he returned to Akeredolu’s camp weekend after meeting the governor at the Government House, Akure.

He was said to have been led into the meeting by former Commissioner for Special Duties during the Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s administration, Femi Adekanmbi and the governor’s son, Babajide.

Akeredolu and his erstwhile chief aide are believed to have settled their differences at the meeting which held Sunday evening.
