Former Senator for Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani has described the appointment of Bashir Adewale Adeniyi as a welcome development.

Sani said this in a tweet on Thursday, three days after President Bola Tinubu approved Adeniyi’s appointment as Comptroller General of Customs.

He took over from Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), who was relieved of his job alongside all service chiefs Monday afternoon.

Ali’s appointment on August 25, 2015, followed the removal of Abdullahi Dikko, another Northerner.

Before his latest appointment, Adeniyi had over 30 years experience in Customs Administration covering Strategic and operational responsibilities.

Commenting on the appointment, Sani said, “The appointment of Adewale Adeniyi as the new Acting Comptroller is a welcome development.

“It has finally put an end to the regionalisation of the headship of the Agency.

“The next step is the comprehensive probe of the way the agency was operated in the last eight years.”
