AFCON 2023: Nigeria nip Angola, qualify for semis

1 Min Read

An Ademola Lookman lone goal was all the Super Eagles of Nigeria needed to nip the Palancas Negras of Angola and qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Lookman volleyed home from close range from a Moses Simon pass in the 41st minute of the encounter at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.

It was the Atalanta forward’s third goal for the Super Eagles in the ongoing competition.

Reigning African player of the year, Victor Osimhen’s firm header from the in-form Lookman’s free-kick was palmed into the net by Antonio Signori Dominique, but the striker, who’d taken his mask off and raced away to celebrate, was adjudged to have been fractionally offside following a VAR check.

This is the first time Nigeria have won four consecutive matches at a single AFCON edition without conceding a goal.
