The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP lawmakers in the Senate have set a confined choice for the National Charmian of the party as he’s bee aske to choose between the 2019 Presidential Ticket or the Party’s National Chairmanship spot.
The PDP lawmakers set the new confined condition at a meeting of the National Assembly caucus on Monday.
According to a member of the closed door meeting who wished to remain anonymous,Sheriff remains the Sole candidate and the party would like to take steps in securing its future.
The source continued: “The truth is that we want Sherrif to agree to our proposal that he cannot, after being supported to become the substantive national chairman, now turn around to also contest for the presidential ticket of the party when the time comes.
“We were witnesses to the agreement that he was supposed to quit on May 21, yet, he is now the sole candidate for the position. We believe that, when the time comes, all qualified individuals should be allowed to run for the party’s presidential ticket…”
In reaction to the conditions set, the Minority leader of the House of Representative, Leo Ogor dismissed the directive in a telephone interview with Daily Sun stating that a consensus has been reached to allow Modu Sheriff serve as the party national Chiarman till 2018.
He said: “As we speak, the committee we inaugurated has been disbanded. Reconciliation of aggrieved groups, which was the main issue the committee was meant to deal with, has been effectively resolved, which was made in consultation with the governors,”
