Former US President Donald Trump has drawn criticism from some American netizens over his claim of not knowing what a “burner phone” is.

The Washington Post quoted Trump as making the comment in reaction to enquiries on how records submitted by the National Archive to the House of Representatives select committee investigating the U.S. Capitol riot showed a gap of seven hours and 37 minutes in Trump’s Jan. 6, 2021, phone log.

According to The Post, the committee is investigating whether the former president used disposable “burner phones” or borrowed a phone to communicate during the time the Capitol was attacked by his aggrieved supporters.

White House’s notation of calls to and from Trump showed the president made and got no phone calls between 11:17 a.m. and 6:54 p.m. on January 6, the newspaper quoted documents submitted to the select committee as showing.

The attack on the Capitol commenced around 1 pm.

In a statement to The Post, Trump said, “I have no idea what a burner phone is, to the best of my knowledge I have never even heard the term.”

However, many Americans on Twitter are not buying the explanation.
