Amina Zakari Finally Breaks Silence on Buhari Scandal

Amina Zakari, who is a National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has broken her silence on the scandal involving her alleged familial relationship with President Buhari.

In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), she denied the claims that she is Buhari’s cousin or niece.

It has been a controversial situation with the People’s Democratic Party, calling foul when she was appointed as the Chairperson of INEC Advisory Committee and Presidential Election Collation Centre Committee.

She said: I’m not his (Buhari’s) niece” and “I am not his cousin”.

She said: “He is not my cousin, he is not my uncle as is being claimed but I know him as my leader and the leader of the nation.”

She also argued that she was appointed as an official in INEC during the Jonathan administration and that even before that she served during the Obasanjo regime.

“I don’t think I should be distracted now that elections are coming, I will continue doing my work.

“I will continue to serve my country to the best of my ability, with the best of intentions. President Muhammadu Buhari is my President as everybody else’s President.” she added.

This follows a statement released by Presidential aide, Garba Shehu, who said that Buhari and Zakari’s relationship is through marriage and nothing more and that her role in INEC is in now way going to undermine the elections.
