The Anambra Government has lifted the state-wide dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 second wave in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, disclosed this in a statement in Awka on Thursday.

Chukwulobelu stated that the suspension would take effect from 6a.m. on Saturday, February 13.

The state government announced the measure on February 5, following report of a spike in the number of cases of the pandemic in the state by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The centre had reported that the state had 1,053 cases, 700 active, 334 discharged and 19 deaths as at February 4.

Chukwulobelu stated that the suspension was sequel to the state COVID-19 Task Force report of an increase in the observance of the preventive guidelines.

“It has been observed that residents have become conscious of the threat COVID-19 poses to life.

“There is an appreciable compliance with the preventive guidelines issued by the government.

“We are not relenting. We shall continue with our various interventions, including public enlightenment, engagement with market leaders, churches, hospitals, caregivers and other stakeholders,” Chukwulobelu stated.

He, however, admonished residents to continue to adhere to the guidelines, which include the use of protective face masks outdooor and in public places.

“We urge residents to maintain social distancing in public gatherings, regular handwashing and use of hand sanitisers,” he added.

The SSG further advised the people to approach the hospital or health facility, rather than indulge in self-medication, whenever they felt sick or suspected COVID-19 symptoms.

He warned that the mobile courts set up to enforce government’s guidelines were still sitting, hence the need for people to sustain adherence.
