Some worshippers who tested the patience of Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga, by attending mass without putting on face masks got more than what they bargained for as the bishop chased them out of the church.

The incident occurred during the Holy Mass to mark the 2020 World Communications Day at the Holy Ghost Cathedral.

Bishop Onaga fervently chastised many Enugu residents and other Nigerians who chose not to wear face masks in spite of repeated warnings from government and health authorities.

He queried why some people still chose to disobey directives aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19, a disease that has killed nearly 400,000 globally.

The cleric warned that no congregant would be allowed to observe mass in the cathedral without obeying the necessary health guidelines.

During his homily, Bishop Onaga charged the media to continue to use their platforms to educate Nigerians on the need to adhere strictly to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols on the containment of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

According to him, government cannot single-handedly rid the nation of the virus, and as such require the cooperation of all stakeholders and the citizenry.
