The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has voided the election of Senator Elisha Abbo as senator representing Adamawa North.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) senator’s election was nullified on Monday.

The court declared Rev. Amos Yohanna Kumai, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 election, as the rightful winner of the election.

Kumai had challenged Abbo’s election in a petition marked EPT/AD/SEN/02/2023.

The plaintiff prayed the court to void Abbo’s emergence on the grounds that the election that produced him was marred by irregularities as well as non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

He also alleged widespread cases of over-voting at various polling units, false entries, alteration, and cancellation of votes at several polling units.

Delivering judgement in favour of the applicant, the court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Senator Abbo and issue same to Rev. Kumai.

Reacting in a Facebook post, Senator Abbo described his removal as a “gang up”.

“The Court Appeal in Abuja just voided my election. The gang up has temporarily worked. I will soon address the press,” he said.
