ASUU may call off strike after 13 hour marathon meeting with President Jonathan

The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities are expected to call of their strike anytime soon. The Union had a marathon meeting with President Jonathan which began on Monday after 2pm and lasted till after 3 am this Tuesday morning.

After the meeting, the Union said the conversation with President Jonathan centered around the 2009 agreement and that they would take the message of the President back to their members.

The ASUU delegation which comprised current President, Dr. Nasir Isa Faggae and past presidents Prof. Abdulahi Sule-Kano, Prof. Dipo Fashina and Prof. Festus Iyayi, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress,  Abdulawahid Omar and that of the Trade. Union Congress, Bobboi Kaigama, were all smiles as they exited the meeting giving an indication that the impasse may finally have reached a compromise.

Earlier on Monday, ASUU leadership also met with Senate President, David Mark. At that point, MArk said he was certain the strike would soon be called off.
