Bank Robbery Leaves 2 dead, 5 Injured

A bank robbery that took place in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun state and which lasted for about 30 minutes, has left at least two persons dead and five others seriously injured.

The armed robbers numbering about six, who stormed the Ikirun branch of a new generation bank at about 4.00pm when the bank was preparing to close for the day, could not be resisted by any security agent attached to the bank.

According to an eye witness report, the robbers upon arrival at the bank located at new Inisha road, Ikirun shot occasionally into the air to frighten customers using the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of the bank.

The robbers eventually gained access into the bank and threatened to kill all the bank officials if they fail to co-operate with them.

The robbers, who shot two people dead, went away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Speaking to newsmen during a telephone interview, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Folashade Odoro confirmed the incident.

She said the state command of the Nigeria Police had deployed Police Officers to the town to calm the situation.
