Boko Haram Celebration Rally, A Distraction – Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has put out a warning to Nigerians aiming to celebrate the success of the military against the Boko Haram sect through rallies in the North East to refrain from such decision.

Addressing the issue, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, in a statement issued on Thursday said that although the Nigerian Army isn’t against the public’s desired to celebrate the military’s success, there was no need for such solidarity rallies.

He added that news had reached the Nigerian Army that some people were planning a solidarity rally to celebrate the success of the military against the Islamist-Jihadist sect, he continued that such exercise could distract the army from its focus.

“The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a number of groups and individuals celebrating the routing out and decimation of Boko Haram terrorists on our soil.

“So much as we thank them for that, it is imperative to state that we do not begrudge such persons their desire to identify and associate themselves with this success.

“However, the Nigerian Army wishes to disassociate itself from such celebrations and solidarity rallies. We also would like to advice that they should thread with caution as this could be distractive to us.”
