President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the “heinous” killing of worshippers Sunday at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo Kingdom, in Ondo State.

This is contained in a statement signed by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

Multiple reports claim that armed Fulani herdsmen stormed the church during Sunday Mass and shot everyone in sight.

The Punch reported that at least 50 persons, some of whom have been confirmed dead, have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.

The statement quoted the president as saying that “only fiends from the nether region could have conceived and carried out such dastardly act, adding that eternal sorrow awaits them both on earth here, and ultimately in the hereafter”.

It further quoted Buhari as mourning the dead, condoling with their families, the Catholic Church, and the Government of Ondo State, and charging emergency agencies to swing into action and bring succor to the wounded.

“No matter what, this country shall never give in to evil and wicked people, and darkness will never overcome light. Nigeria will eventually win,” the President said.
