People Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the international community especially the United States of America to teach President Muhammadu Buhari how to observe the tenets of democracy in Nigeria.

National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said this during visits to US’ National Democratic Institute and the International Republican Institute in Abuja on Thursday.

PDP expressed worries over issues that have been happening in the country recently, the party mentioned the case of Senate Deputy President, Ike Ekweremadu and the appointment of Acting Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Amina Zakari.

Metuh said “We are worried about attempt by our government to harass and influence the detention of the Senate’s Deputy President, Ike Ekweremadu.

“It will be very difficult to accept any result of the election conducted by Amina Zakari. It will be difficult for the PDP to accept result of election if we lose under Zakari.

“We have INEC and the idea is that people heading it should be above board, but the present ruling party has appointed the ‘daughter’ of the President to head the position.

“There is nowhere in the world where such has happened, a person who has a relationship with the President.

“I am drawing the attention of the IRI to this. Buhari has appointed his ‘daughter’ as INEC chairman; we believe there will not be fairness.”

Mr Jasper Veen, Resident Country Director, NDI also said that for the internal democracy of a country to function well, the political parties must collaborate and relate well.

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs was created by the United States to deepen democratic culture and channel grants for furthering democracy in developing nations.

The International Republican Institute is a United Nations-partner organisation that conducts international political and institutional programmes in countries.
