A former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, says it reeks of selective amnesia for President Muhammadu Buhari to be mocking the opposition for losing the 2023 presidential election.

Sani said this in a Sunday tweet while reacting to a recent controversial remark by the president.

Addressing APC governors at the State House, Abuja on Thursday, Buhari said the opposition lost the election due to overconfidence, complacency, and tactical blunders.

“A combination of overconfidence, complacency and bad tactical moves made them lose, plain and clear. This has created more problems in their camp. Why did they fail to remove us?” Buhari said.

Reacting, the Labour Party (LP) had said “the president was completely wrong to say opposition parties lost because of over confidence”.

The party said the opposition lost the election because “it was manipulated and rigged beyond comprehension”.

Sani, who is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, reminded the president that he had also “lost” the presidential election three times before he emerged winner in 2015.

He recounted how some persons lost their lives after the 2011 election when Buhari made a remark which purportedly instigated violence.

He said, “The president mocking the opposition for the elections instead of kind words of encouragement as leader.

“He has forgotten the same path he took before God blessed him with leadership.

“He has forgotten those who lost their lives & the widows & orphans left behind b4 his emergence.”
