President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday assured Nigerians of his readiness and capacity to confront the myriads of challenges facing the country even as he promised that he would not disappoint the international communities.

Buhari who acknowledged that insecurity, pervasive corruption, unending and seemingly intractable fuel and power shortages are the foremost challenges facing the nation said such must be confronted headlong by his nascent administration.

While accepting that the tasks before his administration were daunting, the new President however noted that they were not insurmountable.

He said he would tackle corruption at the three tiers of governments within the limits of his constitutional capacities and make government officials accountable to the people.

This is just as he admonished all tiers of government to stick strictly to their constitutional responsibilities even as he promised not to interfere in any of their functions.

While promising to order an in-depth investigation into the cause, course and consequences of the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east and determine the involvement of foreign influences, Buhari said the military operational base would be relocated to Maiduguri in the interim.

The President equally assured of his preparedness to tackle youth unemployment in the country by reviving the nation’s agricultural potentials, investing in solid minerals and other physical infrastructures.

Buhari also assured those afraid of his second coming that he had no scores to settle with anybody even as he asserted that “I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody.”

He said “A few people have privately voiced fears that on coming back to office I shall go after them. These fears are groundless. There will be no paying off old scores. The past is prologue.”
