The Burkina Faso Government has placed a ban on the annual Miss Bumbum beauty contest for women in the country.

The contest which specifically seeks entries from women with the biggest buttocks was described by the government as being ‘sexist’.

Already, adverts of the weekend’s third edition of the contest had been circulating on social media due to the exaggerated large behinds of the fully clothed women featured on the material.

A Burkina Faso Minister, Laure Zongo, in a statement said: “Our role is to do everything to avoid damaging the image of women”.

The minister further added that her action came as a result of social media criticism of the event.

Speaking on the now banned event, the male organisers of the beauty contest noted that the event aimed to promote a more positive body image for African women.
