Calabar man named ‘Email’ dies after girlfriend shoots him during test of charm’s efficacy

Nicknamed “email”, a young man in Calabar will not be going on the internet anymore as his girlfriend has shot him dead.

The victim was reportedly testing the efficacy of a charm he made to protect himself against gunshot when he asked his girlfriend to shoot him.

The incident occurred Wednesday at his residence at Nelson Mandela Street, opposite the Assembly of God Church in Calabar South, The Nation reported.

The young man, whose real name has not been ascertained, was said to be an Indian hemp vendor and was with a group of his friends when the incident occurred.

The Nation quoted the younger brother of the victim’s girlfriend as confirming the incident.

He said that his sister named Blessing was Email’s good friend.

He added that she was passing by the victim’s compound when he beckoned on her to come inside the compound.

He said that the victim was with his friends taking different concoctions and native charms, some of which they claimed could protect them against gunshots.

According to him, others tested theirs successfully but Email asked Blessing to test the charm on him by shooting at him.

He said the victim slumped immediately the bullet touched him and died.

Blessing’s younger brother disclosed that Email’s neighbours descended on her with machetes and other dangerous weapons, inflicting deep cuts on her in the process.

He said the timely intervention of the police prevented his sister from being killed.

He further disclosed that the police took her to a clinic and evacuated Email’s corpse to a mortuary.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River, DSP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident.
