The National Productivity Centre (NPC) says the new 5-year strategic plan of the centre will grow the economy, create employment, generate revenue and improve the standard of living of the populace.
Dr Kashim Akor, Director-General, NPC, said this in a statement signed by Mr Gbenga Bamiduro, Director, Corporate Affairs of the centre.
Akor, who is the Chairman of the Strategic Plan Committee, said that the new strategic plan became necessary as it replaced the old plan which ended in 2012.
According to the director-general, the plan will serve as a roadmap in repositioning and refocusing of the Centre’s policies, programmes and activities.
“The new 5-year strategic plan would henceforth be drawn up to meet the goals and objectives of the 2016-2020 strategic plan.
“The plan which covers 2016-2020 is primarily designed to review important aspects of the centre’s programmes, that is in consonance with Nigeria’s present peculiar economic challenges and prevailing international best practices,” he said.
He also noted that the plan would develop the private sector, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.
Akor added that the plan would also grow the economy, create employment, generate revenue and improve the standard of living of the populace.
He said that the plan also would holistically view the programmes and contributions of the centre to the Nigerian economy in the next five years.
The director-general said there was also need to achieve a planned target of raising national productivity levels by four per cent annually during the plan period.
He, however, said in order to achieve this objective, the centre has developed well articulated action plans and strategies for the implementation of the plan.
Akor, therefore, urged the staff and management of the centre to be fully committed to diligent and painstaking implementation of the plan document.
He added that this will enable the centre to achieve its mandate and reposition it as the apex Productivity Organisation in Africa, ”he said.
Earlier, Mr Samuel Oyibo, Director, Planning and Policy Analysis Department in the centre, said the plan was developed in order to address the inherent weaknesses identified in the maiden NPC strategic plan.
Oyibo who is also the Vice Chairman of the Strategic Plan Committee said the new strategic plan would overhaul the centre to take cognisance of new developments in the country.
He said the plan would also reposition the centre as a result-oriented Federal Government Parastatal.
“The strategic plan document is expected to serve as a roadmap for successful implementation of the centre’s programmes and activities in order to meet the needs of its clients, ”he said.
He urged the NPC management to provide adequate resources and enabling environment that would enable the centre to execute the plan to a logical conclusion.
Oyibo also said that the plan document has in its strategic direction, goals and objectives as to reposition NPC as an institution that drives productivity agenda of government by the end of 2020.
“A globally acclaimed centre that promote organisational excellence and best practices to enhance profitability and growth.
“A centre that provides consultancy and advisory service capabilities to organisations in diverse sectors of the economy, among others,” he said.(NAN)
