Chibok Girls: FG Analyzing ‘Proof of Life Video’, Cautious over Problems Stemming from it

The Federal government have reacted to the proof of life video that went viral after being reported by CNN yesterday.

The Government have stated that they are analyzing the video to make sure everything is in order. The video was reported to have been shot in December last year.

It has now been two years since the abduction of over 200 girls from the small village of Chibok with 57 of them somehow making it out a while later.

There have been a spate of female suicide bombers being used by the Boko Haram and it was reported that many of them choose to do so because the suffering and rape within the camp is just too much.

A senior government official while optimistic about the video and what it means, also urged caution stating that they didn’t want to make any mistakes by moving too quickly.

He said that the previous administration encountered massive problems when they prematurely announced talks with Boko Haram elements and even a ceasefire.

“Our intelligence and security authorities… received a similar video in July last year and when they followed the lead it led to a cul-de sac,” he revealed.

Contact could not be made and it was impossible to determine the identities of the purported Boko Haram members who sent it or if the move had the blessing of the group’s leadership, he added.
