Coronavirus: Nigerian Football Fans React As EPL Is Suspended

The FA’s decision to suspend the 2019/2020 English Premier League (EPL) season until April is drawing reactions from Nigerian football lovers.

According to a statement from the association, the decision was reached after an emergency meeting with all 20 clubs in the top flight on Friday.

The meeting was called after Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta and Chelsea midfielder, Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19).

The league is expected to return on April 4, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time.

“Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19.

“In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority,” Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said.

Recall that the Seria in Italy, La Liga in Spain and Lique 1 in France had also been suspended. The Bungesliga in Germany has also followed suit.

But football lovers all over the world are having their say on the EPL’s suspension.

The 2019/2020 EPL season commenced on Friday, August 9, 2019, and was scheduled to round off on Sunday, May 17, 2020.

It remains to be seen if it would now be extended, since are nine matches to go.
