Court Remands Man, 20, For The Alleged Theft Of Provisions Worth N15,000

A 20-year-old man, Bashiru Bala on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing provisions worth N15,000 from a store.

Bala, whose address was not provided, was charged with two counts of breach of peace and theft but pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Edet Akadu alleged that the defendant entered a provision store on Oct. 24 at 11.00 p.m. and stole items worth N15,000.

According to him, the store, located on Agege Motor Road, Mushin, Lagos, belongs to the Complainant, Mrs Arike Temitayo.

Akadu said the offence contravened Sections 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 168 stipulates six months jail term for breach of the peace.

The Magistrate, Mr K.O. Ogundare admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.

Ogundare adjourned the case until Feb. 5 for hearing.
