COVID-19 Patients Hold Medical Staff Hostage in Kano

Drama ensued at the Kwanar Dawaki isolation centre in Kano as some Covid-19 positive patients held medical staff hostage while making ward rounds to protest the condition of the isolation Centre.

News of the incident was disclosed by the former chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kano State Chapter, Aminu Mohammed during a live radio programme on Friday.

He disclosed on the show that the Medical staff were held hostage and locked up for hours as they toured the wards for a routine checkup of the Covid-19 Patients in the isolation Centre.

The former branch NMA chairman opined that medical staff working without personal protective equipment face plenty of risk handling hostile patients.

He appealed to the public to cooperate with medical personnel handling Covid-19 in the country so that they are not discouraged from attending to patients.

Kano currently has 482 active Covid-19 cases, the second highest in the country.
