The debate is one of the biggest ever in the world of football. Hardly can you ask two individuals who they think the greater player is between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi without getting detailed reasons as to why they feel one is better than the other.
In fact, so good are both players that some fans have been known to switch from supporting one to the other after watching an electrifying performance from the rival, only to revert to their original idol after an even classier performance.
However, one person who has a clear idea of who the better player is appears to be Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane.
In an interview with Mexican sports paper Record, Zidane said: “Cristiano Ronaldo is the best.
“Messi is his rival and that rivalry is good for football. It’s what people want to see.
“Many things are said about Cristiano, but deep down he is a good person.”
The two players have shared the last eight FIFA Ballon D’Or awards between them; while the diminutive Argentine has 5, the gangling Portuguese has 3 awards to his name.
