Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended two persons connected to the killings and decapitations that occurred during the early hours of Sunday, in Ajah, last Sunday.
The attack which was said to have been a cult clash claimed the lives of five individuals and left many running from the area for safety.
According to reports, one of the five men was shot, two were beheaded, another had his throat slit, while the last person was savagely butchered with cuts all over his head and body.
Officers assigned to the scene of the crime reported that the family members of one of the deceased did not permit them to take the corpse.
While confirming the arrests of the suspects- Lateef and Augulere, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, stated that an axe which had bloodstains was found in their possession.
He further explained that the suspects who lived at No. 13 Obodo Street Okeiranla, Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos have already given confessional statements about the crime and the bodies recovered had been taken to the mortuary for autopsy.
Bala explained, “On Sunday, April 14, 2019, around 8.45am, the Ogombo Police Station received a distress call that rival cults engaged in a supremacy clash along Abraham Adesanya, Lekki-Epe Expressway and four members of the Eiye Confraternity were killed by the Aiye Confraternity members.
“Two suspects, Saheed Lateef, 21, and Julius Augulere, 20, both of No. 13 Obodo Street Okeiranla, Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos and members of the Aiye Confraternity were arrested in connection with the case and they confessed to the crime.
“One axe with blood stains was recovered from the suspects. The four corpses were evacuated and deposited in a public mortuary for autopsy. All the corpses had machete cuts, with one of the corpses’ head severed but not taken away. Investigation is ongoing. The command has launched a manhunt of the other fleeing cult members.”
