One of Europe’s leading football agents has revealed that top players have ruled out signing for Manchester United during the January transfer window due to the “Moyes factor”.

The agent, who has brokered deals worth more than £40 million among clubs plying their trade in England, Spain and Italy during the last 12 months, claims the unproven track record of new United boss, David Moyes, is now a major stumbling block in many big-money transfers.

And United’s erratic form during the first half of the season – which sees the Champions sit 14 points adrift of Premier League leaders, Arsenal, after they lost 3-1 to Chelsea – has become another significant issue.

“Top players want to play for a top club and manager, and United would appear to be encountering some issues at the moment, wbich has put a question mark about their ability to compete at the highest level in the short term,” the agent told SportsDirect News.

“Players need certain assurances, and there has been too much change at Old Trafford in a relatively short period of time.

“Sir Alex has been replaced by Moyes, and quite rightly, top players, who can pick and choose who they play for, want to see how things settle down before seriously considering a switch to Manchester.

“I’m not saying things won’t change in the summer, after all, things will be a lot clearer by then. But for now, my clients, and many of the other top players I know, are content dealing with other, more stable clubs.”

During the summer, stars like Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao and Cesc Fabrigas, Fabio Coentrao, and Athletic Bilbao star, Ander Herrera, all turned their backs on moves to Old Trafford.

The agent, who regularly earned large fees when dealing with Fergie, believes that once Moyes has proven he is capable of managing at the highest level, Europe’s leading players will once again be turned on at the thought of signing on at Old Trafford once again.

“It’s all part of the baptism of fire Moyes is having to go through,” he said. “He knows what the score is because he has been told that the best players will be denied him for the first year of his managerial reign.

“It’s nothing personal. It’s just the way these things pan out. It’s the same at every club that makes big changes at the top.

“As long as Moyes can keep United competitive this season, and secure a place in the Champions League, then the door should open for him again in the summer.

“But that is very much dependent on what United do on the pitch between now and the end of May.”
