A fiery debate has erupted in the Nigerian entertainment industry after actress Dayo Amusa criticized the decision to award the “Best Dressed Female” title to popular crossdresser Bobrisky at a recent movie premiere.
Bobrisky, known for his flamboyant fashion choices, reportedly walked away with the award and a cash prize of N1 million. However, Amusa took to social media to express her outrage, calling the decision “disrespectful” to the biological women who attended the event.
“The winner could be anyone,” Amusa said in a video posted to her Instagram account, “but definitely not a crossdresser.” She argued that a separate category should have been created for crossdressers to avoid diminishing the efforts of the female attendees.
Amusa’s comments have ignited a social media firestorm, with users divided on the issue. Some support her stance, arguing for clear distinctions in award categories. Others defend the judges’ decision, praising Bobrisky’s fashion sense and right to be recognized.
