Detained Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Yacouba Isaac Zida, who was detained last week by coup plotters from the Presidential Guard led by General Gilbert Diendere, has been released on Tuesday.

In a statement made available to Reuters news agency, Lieutenant Boris Nadie, Zida’s aide-de-camp said “The prime minister is free. He has returned to his official residence (in the capital Ouagadougou).”

On September 17, the President Guard announced a coup d’état and named General Gilbert Diendere, who for three decades served as chief military adviser to ousted President Blaise Campaore, as head of a military junta called National Council for Democracy.

The Interim President, Michel Kafando, Prime Minister Isaac Zida and other important ministers were arrested and detained.

Kafando was later released after pressure from the international community.
