The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a suspected Boko Haram kingpin in Ogun State.

Daily Trust reported Monday that the arrested of the Boko Haram leader occurred on Sunday in the Ijaye area of the state.

The incident was said to have caused panic in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The newspaper reported that the suspect resisted arrest but was overpowered by DSS operatives.

According to the report, the suspect arrived at Abeokuta from Katsina State and took up a security job at Ijaye while using the opportunity to gather intelligence for terrorist attacks.

The newspaper quoted a security source as saying that the suspect moved to Abeokuta to set up terrorist cells for kidnapping and terror attacks.

Armed DSS operatives reportedly swooped on his hideout following intelligence gathering and arrested him.

“It was not an easy ride. Intelligence and the grace of God were sufficient for the operatives. There are still many of them around, but we are on top of our game,” the report quoted security source as saying.

DSS spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya declined to comment on the matter.
